The CSEP Ally in Action Recognition Award recognizes the contribution of a non-CSEP member (individual or entity) for values shared with CSEP, specifically the promotion of exercise physiology or physical activity. This recognition extends to any Canadian or Canadian entity who demonstrates leadership in promoting these values.

Examples of possible nominees include, but are not limited to:

  • Educators that go beyond their normal scope of practice in the promotion of a healthy lifestyle through physical activity
  • Reporters, broadcasts or podcasts that regularly promote evidence-based practices and counter myths about physical activity
  • Politicians or community leaders who actively engage in the promotion of a healthy lifestyle including physical activity
  • Corporations that create programs to facilitate on-worksite physical activity

Recognition Term

This recognition is permanent subject to CSEP’s Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities of CSEP Ally in Action

The awardee is asked to continue promoting values shared with CSEP, i.e., a healthy lifestyle through evidence-based exercise and physical activity practices.

Nomination Process

Any current CSEP member or members may nominate an individual or an entity for the award.

The member or members must submit a one-page letter of nomination. This letter should include the full name of the nominee, as well as relevant information as to the reason for the nomination (nominee’s contributions to the promotion of exercise physiology or physical activity, relevant literature, education, and to the community). Other supporting documents or media (newspaper articles, reports, videos, testimonials…) can be annexed.

Two additional letters of support (one-page maximum each) from other CSEP members can be included in the nomination package, or preferably multiple members can sign the letter of nomination.

Adjudication Process

There will be an open call with reminders sent once a year in the Communique and the student newsletter in addition to reminder announcement at the AGM.

Nominations will be reviewed qualitatively by the CSEP Member Services Committee for the degree to which their activities have been consistent and/or provided an impact aligning with the goals of CSEP.

Upon award, a framed official certificate shall be provided to a successful nominee. Successful nominees will be contacted by CSEP to arrange, if possible, for a public presentation ceremony. If possible and of interest for the nominee, they will be offered complimentary AGM registration. An official announcement of awardees will be made during the banquet at the AGM. The list of awardees will also be published on the CSEP website and through press releases.

In its inaugural year, the Committee will recognize a maximum of 10 recipients for this Award. Five awards per year will be offered thereafter.  The year will follow the CSEP member year of April to March annually.
